Colombia manager Néstor Lorenzo has been urged to start using Aston Villa striker Jhon Durán properly to get the best out of him.
Journalist Carlos Antonio Vélez has sent a message to the Colombia manager today, in comments relayed by Infobae, urging him to change his thinking about Durán.
The striker has started the season in fine form despite not yet convincing Unai Emery to make him the starting striker in his team.
He’s bagged five goals in seven games in all competitions to date including four in five in the Premier League, despite so far failing to make more than 30 minutes in any of his appearances to date.
His only 90 minutes have come in the 2-1 win over Wycombe in the EFL cup this week, in which he also bagged a goal to continue his superb form.
Lorenzo certainly thinks so and has urged the Colombia boss to recognise that fact and stop playing the Aston Villa striker out of position.
“How good it would be if the “good” Lorenzo saw this (…) he puts him to play where he (Durán) does not play,” he said.
“I don’t deny that he has a laterality, it’s obvious that he can do it at any time from the outside, but he can’t be put outside because that is giving up, that is giving advantage to the rival.
“The heat map shows it, it’s very simple (…) that a player in today’s football has to be everywhere, yes, you have to keep those zonal multipurpose players, yes, but you have to get the best out of the player.
“In two years, he will be among the best forwards in the world and they will fight for him. After the games against Argentina and against Peru he has scored against Everton, Wolves, Wycombe Wanderers, playing pieces of games. What Durán does is totally different.”
