Nelson Semedo signed for Wolves in September 2020, in a deal which gave Barcelona an initial fee of around €30m.

It’s not too unkind to say he hasn’t had the impact expected at Wolves, with a goal and an assist in each of his first two seasons, playing mainly at right back and sometimes more advanced.

Multiple injuries at the end of last season limited his time on the pitch, and there’s no certainty he’ll be fully fit for the start of the new campaign.

Despite that, Marca report Atletico Madrid are keen on the player. He’s one of several options the club are looking at, and his experience in La Liga is valued by Diego Simeone.

Semedo has a contract with Wolves lasting until June 2023, with the club having an option to extend it by a further two years.

Atletico don’t seem to have any intention of signing the 28-year-old on a full transfer, and would instead look for a loan deal with an option to buy.

Marca explain Jorge Mendes could be key in a potential deal, given he has a very good relationship with both Atletico and Wolves.
