Loris Karius left Newcastle United at the end of last season following his contract expiring and has been a free agent since.

The German had a two-year stint at St James’ Park and in that time he made only two first-team appearances. One came in the Carabao Cup final of the 2022/23 season, which will be the high point.

The ex-Newcastle goalkeeper has now spoken to Sky Germany about his situation, insisting that he would like to continue playing football and is waiting for the right offer to arrive.

He said, as relayed by journalist Florian Plettenberg: “I am currently not under contract with any club, but I have not ended my career yet. If the right offer comes along, I would like to continue playing football. I believe I still have everything it takes to be a good goalkeeper.”

The 31-year-old had mentioned in another interview a couple of days ago that he is ‘considering retirement’ but has told Sky Germany that he would only consider hanging up his gloves if the right offer doesn’t come.

“But if the offer isn’t right, I don’t want to do it just to play football somewhere.”

The former Liverpool man is still in his early 30s and should have some years of career left. A lack of games at Newcastle United won’t have helped rebuild his image and he’s clearly struggling to convince clubs.
