Manchester City were active in the winter market as they spent over €200m to improve their squad. Their investment would have been much higher had they managed to sign Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso.

The Premier League club showed interest in the left-back but weren’t able to get the transfer over the line.

On Monday, we covered claims from Italy which stated Manchester City have postponed a move for Cambiaso until the summer. It was also said Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to give up on him.

A day later, Tuttosport reported the Citizens had found an agreement with the Serie A club for €60m plus bonuses for the Italy international. They didn’t make a formal offer due to their spending in the last window and have postponed the operation until the summer.

The 24-year-old’s agent, Giovanni Bia, has now said Manchester City wanted to sign his client in January. He revealed this during an interview chat with Kiss Kiss Napoli and Calciomercato have relayed his comments.

“Cambiaso and Manchester City? Juventus will explain what happened, I tell you that it is all true what came out in the papers in relation to the negotiation. It’s true that Guardiola wanted him,” he said.

The agent hasn’t confirmed whether Manchester City will return to the negotiating table to sign Cambiaso at the end of this season. They are likely to make a fresh attempt in recent claims from Italy are to be believed.

Cambiaso’s contract lasts until 2029 and he’s made 28 appearances for Juventus this season.
