Pierre-Emile Højbjerg struggled for regular minutes under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham Hotspur last season.
The midfielder wanted to leave, and the north London club let him join Marseille on a loan deal in the summer window. He started in every league fixture for the French club and even captained them on a few occasions.
Højbjerg suffered his first home defeat with Marseille, when they lost to Paris Saint-Germain last weekend. Roberto De Zerbi’s side had to play the majority of the tie with 10-men after Amine Harit was sent off in the 20th minute.
The Tottenham owned player has suffered his first big blow with the Ligue 1 side. He has sent a rallying cry, and his comments are relayed by L’Equipe.
“We’re all going to do everything right to show that defeats like this can’t happen. It’s not possible,” he said.
“It’s up to us to take responsibility. It’s up to us to question ourselves and fortunately we have a coach who knows how to do things and analyse things very well.
“And fortunately, we have a dressing room full of players with a good mentality, because we all have to question ourselves. We’re all going to do the right things to show that defeats like this must never happen. It can’t happen.”
A month ago, Marseille advisor Medhi Benatia revealed the Denmark international was the priority target to launch the club’s new project.
The Ligue 1 side have an option to make the Spurs man’s stay permanent. Earlier this month, Benatia stated Marseille will exercise this option to retain Højbjerg beyond this season.
