Juventus are on the verge of pulling off what is considered in Italy to be a brilliant deal to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.
To secure the Brazilian they’re sending two youngsters plus €20-30 to the Birmingham club, and that success is providing something of a blueprint and optimism on others deals.
Gazzetta dello Sport now suggest a swap deal could be done to get Mason Greenwood to the Serie A side. They’ve been credited with interest in recent weeks, but don’t want to pay what Manchester United would want.
According to the Italian newspaper, Manchester United are asking €40-50m for Greenwood, and the Turin club simply don’t want to pay that.
So, inspired by their Douglas Luiz success, the idea of a swap is being raised. And which player would they send to Old Trafford? Federico Chiesa.
The obvious question is why on earth would Juventus want to do that? Well, Cheisa’s contract expires in June 2025 and there’s been difficulty regarding a renewal.
His value is therefore dropping and this is one way out of that situation. They also say new manager Thiago Motta considers him ‘expendable’.
Gazzetta report that Manchester United are beginning to consider Chiesa as an option this summer.
There’s nothing especially concrete here, and it’s suggested Lazio could ruin it by signing Greenwood themselves.
Nevertheless, it’s an idea growing. An alternative would be Jadon Sancho going to Juventus on loan and Chiesa to United, presumably on a permanent deal.
The Italian newspaper say Manchester United would have to continue to pay a chunk of Sancho’s wages in that scenario.
Interesting possibilities to keep an eye on.
