Ipswich Town appear set to miss out on the signing of Lille striker Mohamed Bayo as he’s close to joining Antwerp instead.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report that the striker is close to leaving Lille but won’t be destined for Ipswich.
They, alongside Besiktas, had been keen on his signature and were in talks with Lille about a potential deal this month.
However, according to FM’s information, Antwerp have stepped ahead of the competition and are now close to securing a loan deal for him.
Bayo’s departure will then open the door for the French side to sign Chuba Akpom from Ajax in something of a revolving carousel of transfer business at the end of the window.
FM report that Bayo is keen on the move after growing tired of being second choice at Lille and would like to move on for more game time. Ipswich, Besiktas and Antwerp were all offering that, but it is the latter who have won the race.
Of course, there is plenty of time for that to change but for now, it appears the Premier League side will be left disappointed.
