We recently covered a report from Calciomercato on AC Milan closing in on a move for AS Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana. West Ham’s interest was also reported by L’Equipe, and that interest is causing issues for the Rossoneri.
For some days, it has seemed as if Fofana was heading to Milan, Corriere dello Sport today state the same, but there is more to it.
Fofana has, so far rejected all other options in favour of a move to Milan. He ‘immediately’ rejected the idea of a transfer to West Ham.
AS Monaco were keen to sell the player to West Ham. They want as much money as possible from the sale and the suggestion is that this could lead to an ‘internal conflict’ regarding Fofana and a switch to Milan.
After all, Milan consider Monaco’s demand of €35m to be too high for Fofana, and their offer has never gone beyond €17m including bonuses.
The midfielder had a pact with Monaco that he could sold one year before the expiry of his current deal. Understandably, the Ligue 1 side aren’t going to agree to that at any price and the West Ham approach has set their sights higher.
Milan will return with another bid for the Frenchman but it remains to be seen if they come close to Monaco’s asking price.
Meanwhile, perhaps West Ham should keep an eye on the situation.
