Chelsea are eyeing a late move for AS Saint-Étienne’s Mathis Amougou before the winter market closes later today.

That’s at least what L’Equipe are reporting, and they state Blues are keen on securing the 19-year-old’s services.

Their title the west London club ‘persist’ in their pursuit of Mathis Amougou. Within the report, it’s claimed Chelsea’s interest in the midfielder is one of the ‘hottest issues’ of deadline day.

The report claims the youngster has been linked to the Premier League club for several weeks and their ‘interest is confirmed’ now. They add Enzo Maresca’s side ‘are ‘stepping up their efforts’ to try and complete the transfer.

L’Equipe aren’t aware of the figures of the operation, but state the parties are in ongoing negotiations. At this point in time, there’s no agreement in place between the two clubs for the France U19 international’s transfer.

Chelsea are owned by BlueCo, who also own RC Strasbourg. The newspaper states their intention is to start Amougou’s development at the French club if they were to secure his services.

Amougou made 17 league appearances for Saint-Étienne this season and has a contract lasting until 2026.
