Santiago Gimenez was right to turn down Nottingham Forest, as he could get a much better move in a year’s time.
That’s according to journalist Valentijn Driessen, via FR Fans, who has backed the Feyenoord striker today after Nottingham Forest seemingly failed to convince him.
A move to Nottingham Forest has been a hot topic for the past week or so, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side trying to tempt him away from Feyenoord.
The Dutch side were unconvinced by the offers they received, and it seemed Gimenez wasn’t sold on the idea either.
It’s been reported throughout Nottingham Forest’s pursuit of the Mexican that he wasn’t that keen on joining them and would need talking into the deal.
That became apparent this week as he appeared to turn down the idea, anyway, bringing an end to Nottingham Forest’s pursuit in the process.
His lack of willingness may have come from the fact he’s been regularly linked with some of the biggest sides in Europe over the last two years while he’s impressed in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.
And Driessen believes he’s wise to stay where he is, as there may be better offers on the table in a year’s time.
“What do you need Nottingham Forest for?” he said on the Kick-Off podcast, relayed by FR Fans.
“I think that if Gimenez stays in the Eredivisie for another year and he scores 25 times, he can aim higher than Nottingham Forest.
“If he does well in the Champions League, then there will definitely be clubs of a better calibre than Nottingham Forest.”
