Everton will pay the release clause to sign Charly Alcaraz on a permanent basis from Flamengo in the summer.

That’s according to TyC Sports, who say Everton will pay €18m to keep the Argentine once his loan spell comes to an end. He will sign a four-year contract with the Toffees.

They report that Alcaraz’s future has already been defined, and Everton play to ‘execute the clause’ in his current loan deal from Flamengo.

According to their information the 22-year-old has already played the number of games that was a pre-requisite for the €18m clause in his deal to become an obligation. Thus, he will sign for Everton permanently and sign a four-year deal.

Now, they state that Alcaraz has played seven games in total and three as a starter and this is why the clause has been activated. However, this is very different to what has been reported in Brazil.

Reports there have made it clear that Alcaraz had to play at least 45 minutes in at least six games. That’s yet to happen so the clause hasn’t been activated.

Furthermore, it was reported in Brazil today that Flamengo had not heard from Everton at all and had no idea about this latest development. In fact, the belief at the club is that the Toffees will wait for another five games before using the clause as they fear Alcaraz may get injured and that would leave them lumbered.

So, it is very much a matter of conflicting reports at this moment in time. In Argentina they’re insistent it’s all a done deal and Alcaraz will be signed while in Brazil they’re saying Everton are waiting before activating the clause.

It’s still likely that they will do so given the positive impression Alcaraz has made so far, but it’s up to you to decide who you believe on whether it’s already happened.
