Zinedine Zidane is today linked with taking over from Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.
The story comes from France, where Foot Mercato features a piece claiming Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants the former Real Madrid boss in charge of the club.
The outlet claims that Erik ten Hag is currently ‘in the hot seat’ at Manchester United and ‘hasn’t received support’ from the new owner since the takeover.
It’s said INEOS are already working on finding a new manager, and ‘dream’ of bringing Zidane to Old Trafford.
The report recalls that the Frenchman’s name had been mentioned at Manchester United before, but the ‘situation is different’, especially because Jean-Claude Blanc, who’s called a ‘shadow man’ at Ratcliffe’s company, is said to be a big admirer of him.
Foot Mercato points out the chase for Zidane wouldn’t be easy, though, as he remains ‘lurking in the shadows’ while he waits for the ‘ideal project’ to take. Now with him recently saying he’s open to working in Italy, that may be a sign he’s ready for a new job.
The story wonders whether Ratcliffe and Blanc will manage to convince him, with a response expected in the ‘coming weeks’.
Zidane hasn’t worked since leaving Real Madrid in June 2021. His resumee includes three Champions Leagues and two La Liga trophies.
