Rayo Vallecano manager Andoni Iraola is one of the candidates West Ham United are looking at to replace David Moyes in the summer.
That’s according to Cadena SER, relayed by Grada 3, who say that the Spanish coach, who snubbed a move to Leeds United after they sacked Jesse Marsch, is on the list of options being looked at given he is set to be available on a free transfer.
Moyes’ tenure at West Ham is believed to be under threat after a disappointing campaign that has seen them battling against relegation from the Premier League.
The Scot has managed to keep his job thanks to improvement in the last few weeks, moving them clear of the drop, as well as a strong showing in the Europa Conference League, where West Ham will take on AZ Alkmaar in the semi finals next month.
Regardless of what happens in that competition the belief is that Moyes will leave at the end of the season and Iraola is one of those who could replace him.
Cadena report he is among the ‘candidates’ being looked at by the West Ham hierarchy should they part ways with Moyes as expected.
That shouldn’t come as a surprise, as he has done a great job with Vallecano, which is why Leeds had made him one of their main options to replace Marsch, only to be met with a brick wall when they came forward.
West Ham will face competition from Sevilla for his signature, though, with Iraola believed to be Monchi’s number one target for their managerial position next season as well.
At the moment, Iraola is only focused on Rayo Vallecano, which he made clear to Leeds when they tried, and recently assured Marca that his focus is on securing their La Liga status before focusing on his own future.
His contract is set to expire in the summer and talks are already underway to renew his deal, but any prospect of a renewal is dependent on the economic proposal made by Rayo, and what others, such as West Ham and Sevilla, can offer him.
