Kasper Schmeichel has been the first-choice goalkeeper since arriving at Celtic and was a key player for Brendan Rodgers last season.

The Denmark international kept 24 clean sheets and conceded 47 goals from 49 games for Celtic in the recently concluded campaign.

He arrived at Celtic Park on a free transfer in July of last year and the 38-year-old has a contract lasting until 2026. Schmeichel started in Denmark’s 5-0 friendly win over Lithuania on Tuesday and prior to this clash, BT had a chat to discuss his future plans.

The Celtic stopper was at SfB-Oure FA’s academy between 2001 to 2002 and that was his only spell with the Danish club. He hasn’t experienced the Danish Superliga so far and has left the door open for a move in the future.

Schmeichel makes it clear he will study each and every offer and if the top flight Danish club were to offer him an interesting project, he would seriously consider it.

“I would never turn down anything. Not even playing in Denmark one day,” he said.

“If the opportunity arose, I would always take it seriously and see if there were sporting advantages to it. I have always thought that football is so unpredictable that you always have to take any opportunities.”

The former Leicester City star was at OGC Nice and Anderlecht between 2022 and 2024 and before that, he spent his entire playing career in the UK. He says the British football suits him well.

“Every time I see a Superliga team in Europe, they are always competitive. It’s really rare that they get destroyed,” Schmeichel explained.

“For me, British football has suited me well. My mentality was built in British football as a young man. That is where I have played the most.”
