Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has admitted he would love to see Benfica’s Angel di Maria return to Argentine side Rosario Central in the near future.
The Tottenham man has been speaking to ESPN Argentina, relayed by Rosario Nuestro, about his former club and the prospect of his international teammate making a return.
Di Maria is currently playing for Benfica after returning to the Portuguese side on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Juventus.
He’s made a positive impact since his return too, with nine goals and three assists in 21 games in all competitions a decent return for the 35-year-old to say the least.
Di Maria is very much in the final stages of his career at this point, though, and like many South Americans the idea of returning to his first club to finish his playing days appears to be an attractive one.
In this case it would be Rosario Central, who he played for at the beginning of his career before moving to Benfica in an €8m deal in 2006.
The prospect of a return has been mooted for weeks and Tottenham’s Lo Celso, who also played for the Argentine club, would be delighted to see it happen.
“I wish. It would be a dream, both for all the fans and for him,” he said on the matter.
“We know that it is not easy, we are talking about a player who left an indelible mark throughout Europe, but people are very excited about his return, and I think the club is doing things well.”
