Vasco de Gama president Pedrinho has insisted he will make every effort to ensure Philippe Coutinho remains at the club following his loan from Aston Villa.
O Sao Goncalo cover comments from Pedrinho today, as well as the general feeling at the Brazilian club on the Aston Villa midfielder.
Coutinho is currently on loan at Vasco from Aston Villa until June 30th, when he will be expected to return to Villa Park.
Several reports from Brazil have made it clear that Vasco wish to reach another agreement and to keep him, with negotiations set to take place to try and make that happen. Now Pedrinho has made his feelings clear on the matter.
“I will make every effort to make this happen,” he is quoted as saying.
“We know the potential of Coutinho, which was a matter of adaptation. We know the effort he made to come. I can’t promise because there’s a lot involved in it, but the desire is great.”
O Sao Goncalo add that Vasco have adopted ‘patience’ but ‘remain optimistic’ on the hope of continuing with Coutinho in their squad.
They, Coutinho and Aston Villa are debating what the next step will be for him, but Vasco’s board have made keeping him a priority.
The current focus is on a new loan but the possibility of Coutinho terminating his deal at Aston Villa to sign permanently in Brazil has not been ruled out.
His current deal at Villa Park runs until June 2026. Vasco believe that his desire to continue in Rio de Janeiro can be ‘fundamental’ to facilitating an agreement between the various parties.
