Victor Lindelöf spent five years at Benfica before joining Manchester United in June 2017.

The Sweden international’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of this season and the Eagles are interested in signing him for free.

Earlier this month, we covered claims from Portugal which stated the Manchester United player feels the summer window is the right time for him to return to Portugal.

Lindelöf is currently with his national team, who will face Northern Ireland in a friendly later today. He spoke to Swedish reporters at a pre-match press conference and Tuesday’s edition of Sportbladet relays his comments.

The centre-back was asked about the possibility of returning to Benfica on a free transfer after this season.

“Benfica is a club that means a lot to me. They shaped me into the player I am today. I don’t know what will happen and what my decision will be. But it is a club that I like,” he said.

Lindelöf has seen his playing time restricted, partly due to injuries, and made two starts in the Premier League this season. He also made four more starts in the EFL Cup and the Europa League.

The 30-year-old is clearly not pleased that injuries have hampered his role at Manchester United this season.

“It has been extremely difficult, I am used to playing a lot of matches. Not being able to do it continuously has been tough. It takes a toll on the psyche to do all the rehab, which is not very fun,” Lindelöf explained.

The defender enjoys life at Manchester United but isn’t sure whether he will continue at Old Trafford. Lindelöf has a ruled out a move back to Sweden and will decide with his family on the next move, if he has to leave the Red Devils.

“I don’t just have myself to think about anymore. It’s a decision we have to make as a family. Of course, I always try to think about football and what’s best for me. But it also goes hand in hand. What I think will be good is usually good for the family. I’m making the decision with my wife too,” he added.

“Right now, we’re keeping our thoughts within the family. I feel that I still have a high level in me. The idea is that I want to play at the highest level.”
