Arsenal defender Cedric Soares has revealed how he is trying to help the club’s younger squad members to manage their expectations on a daily basis.
The Gunners have started this season in fine form, with three consecutive wins putting them at the top of the table as the only side to win their first three games.
There is a growing belief that they could be a force under Mikel Arteta this season, having fallen short at the final hurdle last year.
It has been another summer of change at the club, with the club moving on older stars such as Alexandre Lacazette in favour of further reducing the age of the squad.
That’s seen them target players like Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Marquinhos and Gabriel Jesus, who are 25, 22, 19, and 25 respectively. 21-year-old William Saliba has also been handed a starting role alongside Gabriel Magalhães.
It means the average age of the squad is now 24.7 years old, the lowest in the Premier League and something Arsenal fans are excited about.
A strong start to the season has only added to that excitement but Soares, one of the older players in the squad, insists he is working to keep things focused inside the Arsenal squad.
“We have a very young squad, but that should be seen as a positive point, because it’s an irreverent group, with a lot of determination and will,” he told Novo Semenario.
“Those are fundamental values for success. Being the most experienced player at only 30 years of age is unusual, but it’s something I’m pleased to see.
“I try to help them on a daily basis to manage their expectations and emotions. They know it’s the most competitive league in the world and that every game is unpredictable.”
