Ramon Vega has admitted he should have never left Celtic, having missed the ‘pure Scottish madness’ ever since.

Blick have an interview with the former Switzerland international today in which he admits he loved his time with Celtic.

Vega spent six months on loan at Celtic from December 2000 to June 2001 in a temporary move from Tottenham.

He would make 26 appearances in that time, scoring four goals in total before returning to Tottenham in the summer and then joining Watford.

He got the full Celtic experience during his time at the club, beating Rangers home and away that year in a title winning season, winning the SFA Cup with a 3-0 win over Hibernian and even bagging a double on his debut against Aberdeen.

It was a busy six months that could have been longer had he not heeded the call from Elton John and old friend Gianluca Vialli to join the project at Watford.

Ultimately, he only stayed with the Hornets for a year before then moving to US Créteil-L in France and then retiring in 2003.

Not staying in Scotland longer is now a decision he regrets, admitting he loved Celtic and the atmosphere at Celtic Park.

“It was pure Scottish madness,” he said.

“We played against Liverpool twice. First at Anfield Road. 45,000 fans came to see the old ones. The majority were Celtic fans. And they were louder than those of the Reds. You’ll still get goosebumps long after your career is over. Incredible!

“From the second you walk into Celtic Park you get goosebumps. The highlight is when the team forms a circle just before kick-off, the players push each other, and the coach says the last words. It’s as quiet as a mouse.

“When the circle dissipates, an eruption occurs. The fans become deafeningly loud. All the energy of this stadium literally flows into your body at this moment!

“But actually, I should have stayed at Celtic longer, because the Scots really wanted me after my injury ended, and that was still the case after six months.”
