Arijanet Muric left Ipswich Town to join Sassuolo on an initial loan deal last summer.
Sport Witness have covered the Italian club’s option to buy, with the goalkeeper impressing in Serie A.
Sassuolo find themselves in a solid mid-table spot, 10th right now. They are only 12 points behind sixth-placed Roma, having previously flirted with European qualification too. Muric has been key to this progress, having played 30 times in the league and showcasing quite a bit of leadership and maturity.
The Italian press has expressed doubts over whether Sassuolo have the financial reserves to sign Muric permanently from Ipswich Town.
CEO Giovanni Carnevali has praised the goalkeeper but hinted at seeking a possible discount from the Championship club.
Now, the player himself has spoken about his future and he seems keen on staying.
Muric enjoying life in Italy
The 27-year-old spoke to Corriere dello Sport in a detailed interview. He was asked about his season so far and his plans for the future, with Ipswich Town holding the power.
Arijanet Muric appeared to have a lot of admiration for manager Fabio Grosso, who has been doing a good job.
“It means a lot to me. I was coming off a bad injury; I had shoulder surgery and didn’t play for 6-7 months; they thought I was done for. I was about to go to Turkey, and I really appreciate the confidence the coach showed in me.
“I’m also credited to the coach for making it this far; he could have made different choices. He wanted me and played me straight away. I play for him too, and I appreciate that.”
Further, he made his love for Italy quite clear.
“Life here is great. I love Italy. Everything is beautiful. The people are kind and generous, and I’m enjoying the season with my family.”
He was also specifically about his future. Muric seemed certain he wants to leave Ipswich Town permanently.
“I’m doing great and would love to stay. I love the club and your country.”
Situation will come down to finances
Sassuolo’s option to buy currently stands at €10m. For a club that isn’t a big spender, that will be a task.
One thing that will help them is sales. The likes of Armand Lauriente, Tarik Muharemovic and Ismael Kone can leave, handing Sassuolo a major budget.
Ipswich Town, meanwhile, won’t mind any of this. Muric has done enough to attract other suitors and if Sassuolo can’t afford €10m, other clubs surely can.
Besides, the Kosovo international has played in the Premier League in the past. Clubs in England will not show hesitation in meeting that price-tag and that can also help Muric’s career.
