In November, Sport Witness covered comments from Ipswich Town’s Arijanet Muric about his ongoing loan at Sassuolo.
The goalkeeper clarified that he is now seeking a club that he joins permanently, as he enjoys his time in Italy. He hinted at the possibility of staying at the Serie A side, who are punching above their weight this season.
Muric is key to that, having emerged as arguably one of the best keepers in the Italian top-flight. He’s started all but one league game, keeping six clean-sheets.
Now, Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has spoken about the Ipswich Town player.
Sassuolo can seek Muric discount from Ipswich
The Italian spoke to Radio GR1 about a host of Sassuolo players. He was specifically asked about Muric, and expressed admiration for the player, hinting at a permanent move.
Carnevali said – relayed by Tuttomercatoweb: “He’s a player we signed on loan with an option to buy. He’s doing very well, and it’s not even that surprising. We have an option to buy from Ipswich, and we’ll evaluate him accordingly.”
Further, Carnevali hinted at the fact that Sassuolo can seek a possible discount in a permanent deal for Muric.
“He’s demonstrating great value, and given the right conditions, he’s a player who has given us a lot. I think he’s one of the most promising players and has shown the best things in this league.”
What happens from here
As things stand, the Italian side have the option to buy Muric permanently for only €10m.
While that isn’t a major amount for English football standards, it can be problematic for Sassuolo. It might just require them to sell a key player or two in Ismael Kone or Armand Lauriente to finance the permanent deal.
It remains to be seen if Ipswich Town are open to negotiations. Muric has made enough of a mark in Italy to be commanding the €10m fee. He could have also attracted interest from Premier League clubs, having played for three different clubs in England.
So Sassuolo might have to just meet the asking price or possibly lose Muric in the summer.
