When he was brought in by Fabio Paratici, there was a feeling Pierluigi Gollini was there to light a fire under Hugo Lloris at Tottenham.
His presence did just that, as the Frenchman showed once again why he is considered one of the best in the world on his day, extending his stay at Spurs in the process.
Antonio Conte continued to rely on the veteran more often than not, which left Gollini with little time on the pitch, except for cups and the odd European game.
While Tottenham had a chance to make the move permanent, they chose not to, with the player eventually returning to Atalanta, who then loaned him to Fiorentina for the upcoming campaign; a club he knows well from earlier on in his career.
On his Tottenham spell, he said, relayed by Fiorentina.it: “In England, I had important experiences, which made me grow. At Tottenham, I learned a lot, with very strong players, with world champions like Lloris.
“Sometimes, even if you don’t play, you can still grow, if you take things with the right mindset. The Premier League is a more competitive, specific league. You grow a lot playing there.”
Prior to his time at Tottenham, Gollini started his career at SPAL, before moving around between Fiorentina (between 2010-12), Manchester United, Hellas Verona, Aston Villa and then Atalanta.
