Ahead of the Conference League final between West Ham United and Fiorentina, Corriere dello Sport had a nice little chat with Angelo Ogbonna.
It makes the most sense, since he’s a very prominent Italian player in the Hammers team, and with Gianluca Scamacca out of action for the final, the defender was an ideal choice for them.
Another reason why they will have chosen the centre-back is because his time at West Ham could be coming to an end, as his contract with the London club expires at the end of the month.
At 35 years of age and 190 Premier League appearances under his belt, Ogbonna could finally be saying farewell to England, but that’s not entirely his choice.
Asked about what will happen at the end of the month, he replied: “We are talking about it. We are waiting for the end of the season. I feel at home here, I love the club and the fans, and I would continue to give everything for West Ham.”
The defender has been at the club since 2015, when he arrived in an €11m transfer from Juventus, and has always been around the first-team since.
In the past eight years, he can boast 232 appearances for West Ham, having scored 13 goals and picked up the one assist.
