Before signing for Arsenal, Albert Sambi Lokonga was managed by a certain Vincent Kompany, now at Burnley, when he was at Anderlecht.
The Belgian midfielder worked with the Belgium legend at the Jupiler Pro League side, and the former Manchester City star was one of the reasons why the player was able to move to England.
He got the best out of the youngster, despite not being able to return the club to their former glories, but has more than made up for that at Burnley, who are on their way to getting promoted back to the Premier League.
Whether the Clarets manage to actually do it remains to be seen, but Lokonga, in an interview with RTBF, made it clear that, one day, he would like to work with Kompany again.
He said: “I would like to find him again one day. He is someone who is made for the top level. One day, I might find him again. At Burnley next season in the Premier League? I don’t think so.”
Lokonga said that last bit while laughing, making it clear it was a joke, but, with him currently being at Crystal Palace, it might not be the worst idea.
After all, Kompany knows him well, and could do with a player of his calibre if they were in a position to try and avoid the drop back down to the Championship.
We’ll have to wait and see, but maybe something to think about for Burnley.
