This week, the Spanish media revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the signing of Yassine Bounou from Sevilla.
It was claimed that this chase has actually been going on since the January transfer window, when Spurs made a first approach to land the goalkeeper.
That didn’t work out, and a reason for that is that Hugo Lloris’ injury only happened days after the market closed.
Otherwise, Tottenham would have offered over €20m to sign Bono, but now the chase is expected to continue in the summer.
Well, it turns out this rumour was enough for the Spanish media to ask the player about that.
The goalkeeper was interviewed today by PTV Sevilla, and was quizzed about the chances of leaving the La Liga side in January.
“I didn’t want to insist either because I didn’t feel it. At first they spoke with some teams, but with my representative I didn’t feel it was the time to go and tell Monchi that I need to leave, look for the possibility, talk to my agent… I didn’t feel it,” said Bono (via Mucho Deporte).
The goalkeeper also claimed that with Sevilla not having a great situation this season, he felt like that wasn’t the time to leave the club.
“Because of the situation, first, where we were, I didn’t feel like leaving at a time like that. I don’t like to force things either. If someone comes that Sevilla are happy with, it’s another situation, but for me to go… no, no. I’m happy here I feel that the best footballers are the ones who respond to the needs of the place where they are hired before personal needs. Growth is not in going to I don’t know where, but in being in a place that put you in a privileged place and you have to continue doing my best to answer him.”
The Spanish press has been claiming that in case Sevilla do not get qualified for European competitions next season, then there’s a good chance they’ll sell Bono, which is exactly the kind of opportunity Tottenham may be looking for.
