Tottenham target Radu Dragusin will become a ‘top-level footballer’ in the future after impressing in Italy with Genoa.
That’s at least according to coach and commentator Claudio Onofri, who believes Tottenham would be spending their money well if they were to secure the defender.
Spurs are on the hunt for a new centre-back this month, with that area of the team having proven to be a problem area for Ange Postecoglou thanks to injuries to Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero.
Postecoglou made it clear in comments last month that he wanted a defender signed and numerous reports have indicated that Dragusin is at the top of Tottenham’s list.
They’ve been slowly advancing on a deal with Genoa since the transfer window opened four days ago, with it widely expected, at least in Italy, that they could get it over the line sooner rather than later.
While that remains an ongoing issue, Dragusin has been earning rave reviews in Italy, where Onofri has praised him and insisted Tottenham will be getting a star for the future.
“To date, Tottenham seems to have the advantage (over Napoli), because they have offered important sums for the price,” he said.
“Regardless of what the player thinks, Genoa could prefer to give him to the English team to monetise. In any case Dragusin is an excellent prospect.
“At first, he didn’t seem to be Napoli’s level; over time, however, he showed good things. He is very tall and very strong with the head: he has an imperious distance both in the defensive phase and on set pieces.
“His height is not a negative aspect even on the frequency of his stride, because the boy reads the trajectories first and always manages to anticipate the opponent or cancel his dribbles.
“I am convinced that he will become a top-level footballer: he is young and must progress, but he is showing some excellent things, demonstrating a personality beyond his age.
“He has no defects, from this point of view: he only has merits. As a Genoa native, I hope he stays in Liguria until the end of the season.”
