Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen has insisted he can live with the current rotation policy under Roberto De Zerbi.
The Dutchman has been speaking to Algemeen Dagblad regarding his current situation with his club and country.
The goalkeeper made the move to Brighton in the summer, joining in a €20m deal from Anderlecht after a rapid rise in Belgium over the last year or so.
The belief had been that he would be Brighton’s number one moving forwards but that has not been the case as yet, with manager De Zerbi continuing to rotate between him and Jason Steele.
Rotation is very much a part of the manager’s strategy, with the Italian regularly rotating his side across the pitch, particularly now they are competing in Europe.
Verbruggen and Steele have both featured in equal measure this season, something the Dutch goalkeeper, who is now being given his chance to stake his claim with the national team, insists he is fine with for now.
“It’s completely new for me too,” he said.
“When I signed for Brighton, I was immediately told that Jason and I would both be playing a lot. It was not yet known at the time what exactly this would look like: it only became apparent when the season started.
“I don’t know if this will remain the case for the rest of the season, but I can live with it now.
“Although I only play two games at a time, but due to the schedule in England and our Europa League matches, I play almost every week.”
