AZ Alkmaar striker Troy Parrott has admitted he was left frustrated despite their 1-0 win over his former side on Thursday.
AZ Alerts cover comments from the striker today made to Ziggo Sport’s camera’s after their 1-0 win over Ange Postecoglou’s side in the Europa League.
Parrott headed in the game hoping to make an impression on his former team, who he made his debut for in 2020 but ‘failed to make a definitive breakthrough’ with.
He’s instead been shining in the Netherlands over the last year, first impressing with Excelsior last season before moving to Alkmaar for €4m in the summer and brining his Tottenham spell to a permanent end.
The Irish striker hasn’t looked back since, bagging 17 goals and three assists in 39 games in all competitions to date.
He had a perfect opportunity to add to that tally and ‘hurt’ Tottenham last night, finding himself in a one-one-one with goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario that the Italian ultimately won.
That’s a moment Parrott clearly regrets, and he is willing to admit as much, even if his focus is now on putting Tottenham to bed in the second leg.
”I blame myself for that. With my qualities, I have to finish it off,” he said.
”We could have scored two or three goals. But I don’t want to be down, because a win is a win. We won and we have to show it again next week. We know that we can compete with such opponents, we have shown that this season.”
