A few days ago, Ranger’s Robin Pröpper was linked with a return to FC Twente, not so long after leaving the Eredivisie club for the Scottish Premiership side.

The 31-year-old moved to Rangers in August 2024, and that marked his first experience outside of Dutch football. He’s lost prominence in recent months, which has encouraged claims he could leave Rangers and retreat to where he was more important.

Whilst the potential return to Twente has been described as a ‘crazy’ idea by some, a fresh look believes it’s all down to the player’s desire… and whether he feels he’d be losing face by returning to Dutch football so quickly from Rangers.

Dutch journalist Leon ten Voorde has been quoted by TwenteFans as saying that whilst there is contact in place, it could all come down to wounded pride.

Ten Voorde explained: “Of course they have always kept in touch with Pröpper, but the question is whether such a boy wants to return after one year. That there has always been contact with Pröpper, that is certain. Of course, people might sometimes ask: Robin, what is your opinion on a return? But to say that it is very concrete at this moment, that is still much too early.

“It also depends on his situation and it is too early to talk about that. I think he himself is not sure yet. He still has a running contract and has not been here for a year yet.

“Some guys also think: I am not going to give up after one year. Some think it is a loss of face, that is possible. I am only putting forward some counterarguments.”

A lot will obviously depend on what happens for Pröpper between now and the end of the season at Rangers, and what any incoming manager assures him or otherwise.
