With Tottenham Hotspur expected to soon make a move to sign Pedro Porro from Sporting, Lions’ manager Ruben Amorim now talked a little about it.
In a press conference at the weekend, the Lisbon side’s boss was quizzed about the fullback’s potential departure, and claimed he should still be focused on the derby against Benfica.
“I’ve been a player and I know these are complicated phases. But it’s a good complication. It’s worse for those who are about to be laid off, have nowhere to go and don’t know what the future holds. He will always be at a big club. He is already at a great club and is happy at Sporting,” said Ruben Amorim (via Record).
When covering the quotes, newspaper Record points out that Tottenham can’t stop following Porro, saying the next week could be ‘decisive’ for the transfer.
That was repeated several times last week, with the Portuguese media claiming Sporting wanted the player to be focused on the Lisbon derby, and only then would accept to start talking about that transfer.
There isn’t a lot to be negotiated, though, as it’s well known that the Lions will only let the player leave in case his €45m release clause is triggered.
Porro is one of the targets Tottenham have at Sporting, but not the only one, as Spurs are reportedly interested in Marcus Edwards as well, even though the pursuit for the fullback seems more intense.
