Tottenham youngster Lucas Bergvall has been told to remain patient at the club as he’s clearly on the right path.
That’s according to Fotbollskanalen’s PL specialist Olof Lundh, who believes that any talk of a temporary move away from Tottenham is wide of the mark.
The 18-year-old joined Tottenham in a €10m deal from Djurgården at the beginning of July after they won the battle for his signature earlier in the year.
He is very much one for the future and part of the group of young players Tottenham have targeted of late as they look to build for that future.
He’s part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans this season, though, with nine appearances and 258 minutes of football in all competitions this season.
Three of those have been as starters, with him managing 65 minutes against Ferencváros, 73 minutes against AZ Alkmaar and 62 minutes against Coventry City.
The rest of his appearances have been as a substitute, particularly in the Premier League, but Lundh thinks Bergvall should be more than pleased with that and not look for any sort of loan move away from Tottenham for now.
“He must be patient. Everything is pointing in the right direction,” he said.
“It is so unusual for players to go from Allsvenskan to the Premier League and take a place. If you are so young, even if he has taken huge steps, and hasn’t played very many at the highest level even in Sweden – then you have to have a little patience.
“I probably should have waited anyway. I don’t think I would have pressed for a loan already until this spring. Tottenham play a lot of games, and it could open up with an injury or similar.
“He can’t be disappointed. You can almost go back to Fredrik Ljungberg’s days, when he moved to Arsenal and played relatively much directly.
“Otherwise, the gap between the Premier League and Allsvenskan is huge. And if you are his age, you get to see all the minutes in the first season as a bonus. Everything still points in the right direction.”
