Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno has insisted he doesn’t regret leaving Arsenal last summer, despite them going on to challenge for the Premier League title.

The German has been speaking to SportBILD about his first season at Craven Cottage after moving to Fulham from Arsenal in the summer transfer window last year.

Leno had spent four years at the Emirates following a €25m move from Bayer Leverkusen in July 2018 and had been number one at the club for most of that time before finding himself down the pecking order in his last season.

He was eventually replaced by Aaron Ramsdale, and elected to move across London to Fulham to become their number one when they were promoted back to the Premier League last season.

The move has proven to be a smart one for both parties, with Leno impressing and providing experience to Marco Silva’s side.

Arsenal have also come on leaps and bounds since his exit, challenging for the Premier League title for much of the season before eventually falling short in the final run in.

Most would assume that was a bitter pill for Leno, but he insists that is not the case and he does not regret his move in the slightest.

“I quickly found my rhythm again, gained confidence and played well,” he said.

“The way we played was intense. I like the gameplay. I haven’t regretted for a second that I stayed in England and went to Fulham. Fulham used to be an elevator crew. Now we want to establish ourselves properly.

“In the end, Arsenal didn’t become champions, but regardless of that, I had to look at myself: the Arsenal chapter was just over for me.  I still have a good relationship with some guys.

“But I’m not crying after the Arsenal chapter, I haven’t missed or regretted anything.”
