Mathias Kvistgaarden was reportedly a target Celtic in the recently concluded window, and even though a move to Celtic Park didn’t materialise, the Brøndby star has expressed his delight over being linked to Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The forward has managed two goals and three assists from seven games this season, and he managed a goal and an assist in his side’s 3-1 win over Randers FC on Sunday.
Prior to the clash, Discovery+ had a chat with the 21-year-old, where he asked about the recent reports linking him to Celtic, and his comments are relayed by Tipsbladet. When responding, Kvistgaarden didn’t hesitate to hail Brendan Rodgers’ side.
“It’s the first time for me that this has happened, so of course it’s something that was in your head. When you went on Facebook and saw that your face was on a link right in front. Of course, it is great and a huge honour. But it was something that was in my head, and you thought a little,” he said.
It looks like Brendan Rodgers’ side showed interest in the Denmark U21 international as he admits to have held talks with his agent over a potential move to Celtic.
The Dane, who can operate across the attacking line, doesn’t hide his excitement when talking about Celtic.
“There’s no doubt that it’s insanely exciting and a huge club. But I left things up to people other than myself. I concentrated as much as possible on training every day and being on time and doing my things – and then letting others have conversations,” Kvistgaarden explained.
Kvistgaarden spent five years at Brøndby’s academy before he was promoted to the first team in 2020. Since then, he has made 67 appearances for the senior team, managing 16 goals and eight assists in the process.
The versatile player has also admitted he’s not disappointed over a failed move to Celtic.
“No. I love Brøndby, so whether it was here or there, I still love to pull the yellow jersey over my head every time,” the Dane added.
