Sunderland are showing interest in Lyon forward Georges Mikautadze, and it creating waves in the Italian media due to the Florent Ghisolfi links. The Frenchman is expected to take a role at the Premier League club having left the director of football position at AS Roma.

Georges Mikautadze is likely to leave Lyon this summer following their relegation to Ligue 2 due to financial difficulties. Even if they win an appeal against that sanction, the Georgian could still go.

Corriere dello Sport report on Sunderland interest in Mikautadze as the Premier League newcomers strengthen their attack ahead of next season.

Ghisolfi was behind interest in the player at Roma, and the Italian newspaper explain it was even he who made the first approach for the Serie A club.

Roma are still targeting Mikautadze as they look to replace Tammy Abraham, who signed for Besiktas on loan this week.  However, Sunderland joining the race for the 24-year-old is a concern to the Serie A side as they fear being priced out of a deal. Other players are now being considered.

It’s believed the Black Cats can offer more for Mikautadze due to less financial constraints and could even reach his €20m+ asking price. He made 47 appearances last season for Lyon, scoring 14 goals. The centre forward is contracted until June 2028.
