First things first, as far as German newspaper Bild are concerned, West Ham can’t sign Javier Hernandez for a £13m release clause.
Bayer Leverkusen are content to sell, but obviously want to get the best price they can, a stance which is somewhat weakened because Hernandez only has a year left on his contract with the Bundesliga club.
In brighter news, Bild say, according to their own information, West Ham and Hernandez have already agreed on the personal terms of a transfer, leaving only the fee to be sorted out.
The Mexican wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen, according to the claims, so perhaps West Ham could pressure a little more on price, alternatively they may be better getting the deal done earlier, even if it does cost an extra €4m.
West Ham have experienced enough problems with striker transfers without losing another through a €4m gamble.
Turning 29 years of age in June, there’s still plenty of football in Hernandez, and the motivation of moving to the Premier League could once again kickstart the player’s career.
