Galatasaray have ‘begun researching’ the cost of buying Joao Gomes from Wolves this summer.

According to Sporx, Galatasaray have added the 25-year-old Brazilian midfielder to their transfer shortlist.

The website reports that the Turkish side are researching the cost of the midfielder and will make an official offer in the coming days.

The potential transfer has already been approved by coach Okan Buruk. Galatasaray plans to use Wolves’ relegation to their advantage. They can also offer Champions League football to the midfielder as an advantage.

Gomes is widely regarded as one of the players destined to leave Wolves this summer. He is one of a handful of players to come out of this disappointing season with his reputation intact.

He joined them for €18.7m in 2023 and has impressed since, earning admirers around Europe. Various reports have already insisted that he was on the verge of a move to Atletico Madrid.

Wolves hold the power

But that deal is yet to be finalised, and it appears Galatasaray are now making moves to take advantage of that fact. Wolves hold the power in any negotiations despite their relegation to the Championship.

Gomes is tied to a deal until 2030, and they have an option for another year as well. With a €40m valuation as well, the list of clubs willing to spend is limited. It is hard to imagine Galatasaray would spend such a figure.

The Turkish side have only spent more than €30 on a player one, that was the €75m deal for Victor Osimhen last year. They will perhaps look to take advantage of Wolves relegation to drive down the price.

They’re not the only club looking to do so, though. Atletico have been credited with an interest in month, while Sport Witness have covered reports on Napoli’s interest. The competition should be fierce for the midfielder.
