Fulham have identified AS Roma’s Chris Smalling and Sampdoria’s Omar Colley as targets, according to La Repubblica, relayed by SampNews24.
The Englishman spent over 18 months at the Premier League side before leaving them for Manchester United in January 2010. The London side ‘dream’ of bringing the 33-year-old back to the club, according to the report.
Smalling has less than six months left on his contract and amid interest from Fulham, the Serie A side are not willing to let him leave in the winter market.
The deal didn’t take shape because Sampdoria’s request of €10m was deemed too high by the English club. The report now states that half of that is enough to take him away from the Serie A club this time.
In other words, if Fulham are keen to sign the defender, he could be made available for €5m.
It remains to be seen whether Fulham will push for Smalling or return to sign Colley.
