Rangers have been eliminated from the Europa League after suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Athletic on Thursday. The Scottish club settled for a goalless draw in the first leg at Ibrox last week.
Oihan Sancet scored for the La Liga side before the break and Nico Williams doubled the lead in the 80th minute. Athletic had more possession [56%] and more attempts on goal than Rangers yesterday.
The hosts had 22 attempts of which four were on target. On the other hand, Rangers had two of their seven shots on target at the Estadio San Mamés.
Friday’s edition of Marca, AS and Mundo Deportivo have provided their player ratings for Rangers after their latest defeat.
We start with Marca, who have given two stars to Rangers’ Nicolas Raskin and one each to rest of their XI.
AS gave two stars to Raskin and three other Rangers players: Cyriel Dessers, Rıdvan Yılmaz and Vaclav Cerny. The remaining seven players got one star.
Mundo have also given two stars to Raskin, along with Cerny and Rangers captain James Tavernier.
In other words, Raskin’s performance against Athletic was highlighted and appreciated by the three Spanish newspapers.
