West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberán has received an ‘important offer’ to leave the club and take charge of Southampton.
That’s according to AS, who say the Spaniard is the ‘main candidate’ to replace Russell Martin following his sacking last week.
The newspaper reports that the West Brom coach is the leading candidate for Southampton at this moment in time and has received an ‘important offer’ from them. They make it clear this is according to their own information.
The Saints are seemingly impressed by the work he has done with the Baggies since his arrival in 2022, leading them to ninth and then the semi-finals in the Championship play-offs last season.
In fact, AS say that such is Southampton’s ‘conviction’ for Corberán that they would be ‘willing to hand him the keys’ to the project long-term.
The job is seen as the Spaniard’s ‘first great opportunity’ to coach in the Premier League and the Saints are offering the West Brom coach a long-term contract and ‘decision-making power’.
They believe he is the ‘ideal person’ to revitalise a side that sit bottom of the Premier League table at this moment in time.
There’s no mention of West Brom’s stance at this point.
