On Tuesday, Sporting confirmed Manchester United have expressed interest in appointing Rúben Amorim as their new permanent manager.
Later that day, we covered claims from the Portuguese press which stated Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada and sporting director Dan Ashworth are in Lisbon to close the deal.
A Bola now bring the latest on what’s blocking the 39-year-old from taking charge at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have already confirmed their willingness to pay the coach’s €10m release clause.
It’s claimed Sporting president Frederico Varandas is demanding the Premier League side pay an additional €5m to release Amorim’s technical staff. This is currently blocking Manchester United from confirming his appointment.
The English club would have to find a way to convince Varandas to bring Amorim to Old Trafford. Their emissaries o are working to sort this out.
Manchester United want to bring him immediately so that he can take charge when they host Chelsea on Sunday.
A Bola state Sporting can retain Amorim for a 30-day period even after a club activates his clause. Varandas is negotiating with Manchester United to cancel this period, and the suggestion is he wants a significant payment to do so.
Meanwhile, CNN Portugal are reporting Amorim has arrived at training on Wednesday morning as normal.
