Sporting Club de Portugal have offficially confirmed Manchester United have told them of their plan to pay Rúben Amorim’s release clause.
That clause stands at a general €20m with two further clauses related to it. Should a club withing Portugal want to activate then the amount goes up to €30m. At the same time there’s a certain number of named clubs, including Manchester United, for whom the amount goes down to €10m.
Sporting have now taken the serious step of confirming via the CMVM financial regulator that the Premier League club have told them they’re prepared to pay the full €10m needed.
A Bola have published the statement: ‘Manchester United FC expressed an interest in hiring coach Rúben Amorim, with the Board of Directors of Sporting SAD referring to the terms and conditions set out in the employment contract in force between the Company and the coach, specifically the respective termination clause and the amount of Euro 10,000,000.00; 2. Manchester United FC expressed an interest in paying Sporting SAD the amount of the aforementioned clause.’
The same Portuguese newspaper had earlier reported that Manchester United were sending three officials to Lisbon today to seal the deal for their new manager.
Sporting face Nacional tonight in the Taca da Liga and that looks like it could be Amorim’s goodbye match.
This is a situation progressing very quickly, and that would fit in with Manchester United having their new manager in charge ahead of facing Chelsea on Sunday.
