Rangers weren’t a strong match for Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday evening, as the French waltzed away from Philippe Clement’s side with a 4-1 victory.
While Rangers equalised after Malick Fofana’s early goal, it was all Lyon after that. Fofana grabbed a brace and Alexandre Lacazette also grabbed a brace of his own.
It was only their third loss of the season and the first in the Europa League, but the club’s fans perhaps expected a better performance.
French newspaper L’Equipe are generally quite brutal with their assessment of performances and they have been so with Rangers’ ratings from yesterday’s game.
There were poor performances across the board, as defender John Souttar was given a rating of only 2/10. His defensive partner Robin Propper got 4, with goalkeeper Jack Butland rated at 3.
Left-back Jefte was rated the highest at 5, with James Tavernier given 4. Striker Cyriel Dessers’ performance wasn’t anything of note either and the outlet rated him at 3. That is the same as winger Vaclav Cerny and L’Equipe state that the Czech should have buried a relatively easy chance early on in the game.
Manager Clement is rated at 3 too, encapsulating just how poor a showing the French newspaper believe it was from the Scottish giants.
