Newcastle United look almost certain to have a busy, and potentially exciting end to the January transfer window as the club hope to spend money to help them get away from the relegation zone.

Moves for Diego Carlos and others have hit the rocks, and whilst the Magpies are still looking for a central defender, it would appear they’ve also turned their attention to slightly further up the pitch.

L’Equipe report on Tuesday evening that Newcastle have made a move for Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes. The midfielder has been linked with multiple Premier League sides, and now Eddie Howe’s side have made their move.

According to the French newspaper, Newcastle United have offered Lyon €40m for the player. L’Equipe have contacted his entourage, who didn’t want to comment on the claims, although it’s stated the Premier League club would quadruple the player’s current salary should he accept the late January move.

Guimaraes is currently away on international duty with the Brazil national side.
