Newcastle United have seen an ambitious effort to sign Dusan Vlahovic collapse after the player refused them outright.

That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the striker is now ‘one step away’ from joining Juventus instead.

Vlahovic is one of the hottest prospects in Europe after establishing himself as a star with Fiorentina over the last 18 months.

A record of 49 goals and eight assists in 108 games for the Italian club has not gone unnoticed, and the giant clubs of Europe are all thought to be keen on his signature.

Arsenal have been trying to secure his signature for months but have failed to do so after the player turned them down.

And it appears Newcastle have been given the same treatment, with TMW reporting they had been in contact about a possible move.

However, Vlahovic gave them the same answer he gave the Gunners, a ‘refusal’, even though they offered him more than €10m per season to move to St James Park.

Vlahovic is insistent that he wants to play at a ‘top club’ and Newcastle, as well as Arsenal, are clubs he considers nowhere near that at this moment in time, hence the refusal.

Now, the cynic in us would point out that the answer was always going to be no for the Magpies given their place in the Premier League this season and the relegation battle they find themselves in.

Given Vlahovic has already deemed Arsenal not good enough, then there was never a chance he’d find Newcastle acceptable.

In fact, it makes us doubt this entirely and instead think TMW are just trying to throw the Magpies into the mix given the hype around them and Vlahovic.
