As Newcastle United’s pursuit for Benfica striker Gonçalo Ramos goes on, this week we’ve covered reports from the Portuguese media expecting a new attempt from the Magpies.
It was written by Jornal de Notícias that the Magpies will soon present an offer worth just over €40m to land the Eagles’ star in the final weeks of the transfer window.
It turns out that the Portuguese media has been warning that Benfica will not engage in any deal before their Champions League ties against Dinamo Kiev, so Newcastle don’t need to hurry.
And last night, following the first clash with the Ukranian side, manager Roger Schmidt was asked by journalists about Ramos’ situation.
He admitted that anything could happen until the end of the transfer window.
“Gonçalo loves playing for Benfica, as you can see well on the pitch, but football is a business, the market is open, but we are focused on the next games,” said Schmidt (via Jornal de Notícias).
Gonçalo Ramos already has five goals and three assists in five games for Benfica this season.
The Eagles knew they’d need him to get the qualification against Dinamo Kiev, and he already scored a goal in their 2-0 win in the first tie.
If Newcastle were watching that, it’s certainly another boost for them to go and get him.
