In his pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League tie against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday, Mikel Arteta touched upon Fábio Vieira’s situation at FC Porto.

The Gunners loaned Vieira back to his former club for the current season in the hope he’d be able to achieve a better standard of fitness and get a good amount of games under his belt.

Porto had to struggle to get Vieira to a playing level of fitness, and the 24-year-old has been appearing regularly for them since October.

O Jogo quote Arteta as saying: “There were some possibilities with Fábio’s situation. We are exploring all the things we can do and, in case we can’t, see how the injuries evolve and when these players will be available.”

Those words quickly made their way to Portugal, and specifically FC Porto, perhaps with the help of O Jogo.

The Portuguese newspaper now report, according to what they say they’ve been informed, that Arsenal don’t have any right to take Vieira back in the January window.

This was apparently agreed during negotiations in the summer.

O Jogo insist Porto’s position is clear, and that position is Vieira will be staying with them until the end of the season.
