There was typical drama at the start of the season as Ronald Koeman made it known Riqui Puig wouldn’t be part of his core plans at Barcelona for the current campaign.

The 21-year-old was encouraged to go out on loan so he could continue his development elsewhere, but instead chose to continue with the Catalan club in the hope of a change of fortune. That hasn’t quite worked out with just two appearances so far this season, one each in the Champions League and La Liga, totalling just 28 minutes.

Other clubs are being linked ahead of the January window, and one of those is Leeds United. Spain’s Fichajes cover the situation on Thursday, and explain the interest from various clubs.

According to the claims, Puig’s agent has offered the player to Leeds United, RB Leipzig and AS Monaco, on a loan basis.

However, it’s stated ‘so far there has been no answer’, which would suggest Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta haven’t grasped the opportunity, if indeed it has been offered to them.

Real Betis are also linked, and a loan move in Spain looks the likelier solution for January.
