A departure from FC Augsburg is ‘looming’ for midfielder Arne Engels, with the 20-year-old being chased by Celtic.
That’s according to Augsburger Allgemeine, who report that the Belgian could be on the way out of the German side despite their resistance to that idea.
The newspaper reports that while Augsburg have been one of the busiest teams in the Bundesliga this summer, there could be more business on the way, with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers keen on the youngster.
Two exits are currently at the top of the list, with defender Felix Uduokhai heading to Besiktas and Engels potentially joining Celtic.
Several reports have made it clear the Scottish champions are chasing the midfielder and Augsburger Allgemeine report that an exit appears to be looming.
They say that while UK media are insistent the deal is on the verge of being done, that isn’t the case. Augsburg are simply open to a deal at the right price.
The belief is that Celtic want to pay €7.5m but the Germans would want a fee between €10m and €15m. Concrete negotiations are yet to happen over the potential transfer.
Any deal would provide the German side with a healthy profit given they paid just €100,000 in January 2023, Celtic just need to offer the right price to tempt them into it.
