The ‘exact value’ of Christopher Nkunku’s move to Chelsea will only be known in the summer as it is dependent on a ‘performance-related clause’.
That’s according to Sky Sport Germany, who say the Frenchman will be a part of the Blues squad from July 1st regardless of the figure.
They report that his departure from RB Leipzig is ‘fixed’, and he will be moving to the Premier League, despite the fact he is currently suffering a from a torn lateral ligament in his knee.
Sky are able to confirm information from elsewhere that he will definitely be going to Stamford Bridge in the summer, having already signed a long-term contract with Chelsea.
The official communication from them and Leipzig is expected at a later date, but Chelsea activated his €60m release clause and the deal is done.
That may not be the final figure they pay for him, though, as the ‘exact value’ will only be known at the end of this season as there is a ‘performance-related clause’ involved.
What this is in relation to isn’t mentioned but the hint is that it has something to do with the Champions League, which the Blues could miss out on next season if they cannot improve in the second half of this campaign.
That would be a ‘horror scenario’ for them and leave a ‘bitter’ taste for Nkunku, who wants to play on the biggest stage and will ‘keep his fingers crossed’ his new teammates can secure qualification for next season.
