Benito Carbone has been appointed the new coach of Serie B side Ternana after Christian Panucci left the club last week. The Italian has been out of work since he resigned from his role as the Leeds United U21 coach in 2014.
Carbone has been named the new coach of Ternana just 40 days after Panucci took over from Roberto Breda earlier in the summer. One of the first tasks Carbone is likely to have is deciding on the future of Uruguayan forward Felipe Avenatti, who has been linked with a move to Leeds United in this window.
The 23-year-old attacker failed to impress last season leading to reports in the Italian media he could leave Ternana in this window. There were recent claims Leeds United have already approached Ternana with regards to the South American, but could face competition from Serie A clubs.
Carbone had a brief spell helping build the Leeds United youth academy and manage the U21 side. Carbone left his post citing family reasons as being the main reason for his exit, even though owner Massimo Cellino was keen for him to stay at the club.
Despite this departure, the former Bradford City and Sheffield Wednesday forward has always maintained the experience he got from his time with Leeds United will help him in the future, and in the past has said he’d be always grateful to Cellino for the chance he gave him.
